SPARK PLUG WIRE TIP

I'm installing new spark plug wires on my 9N. On the end of the wires that install into the distributer cap a metal tip has to be installed. In the center of this tip is a piece of metal that I am assuming has to be inserted into the end of the plug wire. My problem is that it is very hard to push the piece of metal into the end of the plug wire as it tends to bend and distort. Am I looking at this correctly or is there another way to install it?

Thanks to everyone who participates on this board. It has been very helpful.

I use a needle nose pliers and a propane torch. Get a good, straight grip on the clip, get it pretty hot with the torch, push it in square into the end of the wire. Push slow or it will bend over. Takes seconds per connector.

They have made these stupid connectors since I was a kid and they never got any better.

My way of doing it is to take a razor blade and cut a little insulation off the wire end - put the bare wire through the hole left by the point that goes into the wire - trim and bend the wire over the bottom of the connector and solder it.

Sounds like a lot of trouble but you don't end up loosing the connector in the distributor cap if you ever half to remove the wire. That happened a lot when I was younger and digging one out didn't make my day.

10-4 on the bends. I usually push the completed assy down on a flat surface before installation to help it's geometry. Not that it really matters. There is enough metal in the socket to find home even if it is all bent up.

The other option (automotive especially) is to buy pre-built kits and they did the crimping for you and it is professional.
