Well my second proofmeter just went crazy with 52 hours on it. the first only had 3 when it went nuts with the needle swinging wildly. this seems to be caused by engine oil getting into the meter via the cable drive. The question is how to keep the oil out of the meter.

Not sure if this will work on a N. GM has a rubber seal that fits the cable were it screws to the transmission. its a little smaller than a quarter. it comes in a trans rebuild kit and any trans shop should have a bucket full of them. It fits the cable nut and seals it from leaking trans fluid. May also help deflect some of your oil. the sprial of the cable should also turn in a direction that it would screw the oil back toward the governor as it turns. check the twist of the cable. Not sure if it could be pulled out and reversed. You may get a automotive inner cable and make it up. The governor bushing and shaft may be worn out.
