Last night I dug into (literally)a '39 9N that I just purchased. It is amazing that this thing ever started. It soes smoke and needs major, major rebuild work.
The p-water oil was as black as a moonless night in the middle of a forest. The engine oil drain plug had about 1/2 inch of sludge and the filter can had about 1/4 inch of sludge in the bottom.
The exterior has as much as 1/2 inch of oil and dirt crud layered over a very bad red over grey paint job.
It will get power washed next week when I get back from the lake. (I'm tempted to tell wife I'm staying home this week-end but I won't 'cause...).
Still shaking my head as to how anyone can neglect a piece of machinery like this and then dare to complain about it's lack of performance.

Yep, I'm with you. I don't understand guys that fail to maintain equipment and then act like it's a piece of junk when it doesn't work anymore. These little tractors actually don't ask much in the way of maintenance for the amount of use they'll give. Seems like it'd be worth taking care of to me.
Later, Lee

Poor tractor....glad that it now has a good home with someone that cares about it and will give it the love and attention it deserves. It's for precisely the same reasons that my grandfather's 2N will never work in a field again and will be permanently retired to a candy dispensing machine in parades and shows!

Yup, my '51 8N has my butt print since 1953. It is retired and a trailer queen. Her hardest job is to climb on and off the trailer.
