Once again I seek the ever expanding knowledge of this board! I know this is way off topic, but I know someone here will be able to give me a helpful answer. About 2 years ago, I bought a brand new Subaru WRX Turbo. Fun Car!! The thing is that the dealership just sent me a letter in the mail that my factor 3year/36000 mile warranty is about to expire, and the want to know if I want to renew it for 2 years and another 40k miles for a thousand bucks. Do you guys think its worth the money????

Thank you so much for giving my OT post a few minutes of your time. I hope someday I will be able to return the favor.-----Rob

My daughter paid $100.00 for the remaining time on an extended warranty when she bought a used Mustang. She had a few problems with the car shortly after she bought it. Nothing was paid for by the warranty. They worked it around so she ended up paying for the whole repair bill. Not a good experience.

Deal with this all the time. i am not going to tell ya not to buy it. if ya ever need it you will get a education on how they find ways not to pay, you are already 1K into it pluss deductable on each repair. Last one i did they said they would have to deduct for betterment, it was a 98 with 44K, just how do make it any better? was my question. its not my place to work a deal with the shaunt's aduster so i tell the customer what they won't pay you will have to pay. All they are interested in is figgering out a way not to pay.
But not to knock'em all I have had some that went about as good as it could. alot depens on who you get to talk to first, when ya make a call to'em.

I know nuttin bout Subaru's , BUT.....
A friend recently purchased a new Subaru *something*. The all wheel drive unit with the tall rear wing. A few of us went to the local dragstrip. He with his new Subaru and another buddy with his *New* 70 Camaro.
Well, The Subaru blew the doors off the Camaro! Im a muscle car fanatic and didnt consider the Subaru a "Muscle Car" until now. hehehhehe
It ran 13.77 in the quarter, first time at the track. The Camaro is in the shop for some tuning.... (go fast parts). Hmmmmm.
I never buy an extended warranty. Well, ONCE I did. I had a video camera that was out of warranty and BROKEN. Low and behold, one evening I got a phone call offering me an extended warranty! I said yes, and got a NEW video camera!!!! They said EVERYTHING was covered. Indeed,it was!

Don't have any advise on the vehicle. I have an opinion on the extended warranty. The last one I bought was in 1989.
What I came to realize is that an extended warranty, on anything, is just an insurance policy. The company providing it has run the statistics on the item they want to cover. They put a price on the warranty that makes them money. So, how lucky do you feel. Understand that the majority of people paying the thousand bucks will loose money. I do have to fess up. I paid $1500 on a Ford extented warranty one time. At 58,500 miles on the 60,000 mile warranty I got a new engine. (It had an oil leak the dealer couldn't find so they replaced the engine!!!!!) Never had that kind of luck with any other warranty. I stopped paying for them and haven't regreted it. What's your risk tolerance..... Good luck either way.

I haven't had a single problem with the car, with the exception of a lead foot, but my wife is working on that.---Rob

Rob..... ..my lead is located a little higher up. (grin)

As a General Rule: Any extended warranty is "additional profit" for the dealer. Very seldom provides the purchaser any relief in mechanical "disasters" because there is always what I call the "weasel-out clause". You didn't have the ashtray emptied by the DEALER therefore your trashed automatic tranny is NOT COVERED.

I have a high opinion of 90+'s Subaru's. My ex-wife liked her Legacy AWD TurboWagon (as a BMW 2002 fanatic, I was impressed) and she is now driving a WRX.

Save yer money..... ...Dell, the cheap
