I have a 1950 8n with a front mount dist. When it is under a heavy load such as starting out in fourth gear or when starting out with the brush hog on it will bog way down almost to the point of stalling then it will pick back up then and run fine. The engine recently had the rings replaced and the valves grinded, the carb was rebuilt and new points, condensor, new coil, new plugs and wires. Any ideas what could be causing it do this? Thanks Rob

Rob..... ..while a too lean mainjet can cause boggin', Its usually a GOVERNOR problem. Flat spotted balls and grooved ball races. Eazy nuff to check. With engine running about 1/3 throttle, try to hand-jazz yer carb to governor thottle rod for MORE rpms. Does it fight you? Play around with the throttle rod so you gitta feel, it won't byte ya..... ....Dell

Sounds like you need to adjust your main jet on your carb. Turn the larger screw on top about 1/4 turn counter clockwise (unscrewing it). This should improve your bogging you are experiencing. Keep turning it 1/4 turn until it runs good. Usually, it is set 1 1/2 turns unscrewed from seated, but sometimes you need a little more.

Good luck,
Dan

Starting out in 4th gear's the only way to use 4th gear... you don't shift an N tranny on the fly like a car tranny.
