I can't seem to get any wrench around my manifold nuts. Got a small leak, and wanna try re-torqueing the nuts, but can't figure out how, or how much torque. I remember someone asked this a while back and I made a mental note of it, and then lost the mental note! I must be getting old and senile. Thanks again for the help---Rob

Rob, even w/ brass nuts, my 1/2 drive socket will not grip the nut; I use a 1/4 inch drive socket because it has a thinner wall & will fit between the manifold & nut.

Rob..... ...your exhaust manifold BRASSNUTS are supposed to be 7/16-20 5/8-hexhead and torqued to 27 ft/lbs. The manifold stud is 7/16-14 and torqued to 50 ft/lbs. Caution: 5/8 hex is non-standard for 7/16 which is 11/16 std hex.

Brassnuts are used so they strip their threads on purpose and don't unscrew your wet manifold block studs. After you strip yer brassnutts, just run a cleaning die down the stud and you should be good to go with new brassnutts ($50c, cheap) and anti-seize pucky..... ...Dell

I don't remember the torque, but if it is a steel nut it is likely oxidized or rusted to a smaller size than standard 5/8. You may need to use a metric socket to fit. Use a lot of solvent to help break them loose or you may end up snapping one off.
