I was trying to pull a little bitty 3 inch sapling outta the ground when the tires started to spin, I hit the clutch and the engine died just like I turned the key off. I checked for spark, and there is none. I checked for volts, and there are 6 at the distributor. I pulled the cap off and there were six volts at the points. By the way, this is a six volt 1950 sidemount 8N. Any clue as to why there would be voltage at the points, and no fire at the plugs? Please help me...I'm stumped (no pun intended). Iffn it helps, There was a fair amount of bouncing when the tires started spinning, just before I hit the clutch, and before she shut down. Gimmie some clues here fellas!! Please! ---Rob

Thanks to Everyone!!! Just got her started. Seems the Points had slipped and closed the gap. I reset the points, tightened the screw and she fired off right away. I'll tell you what, if it wasn't for reading this board and knowing in the back of my mind that the points were prone to slippage, I never would have figured it out. This site is awesome!!! Thank you all very much! Sounder, I hope you weather the storm OK. And thanks for all the help!----Rob

Yes, 25 thou. on the points. If its sparking at the points (good blue spark right) I would check the rotor, Cap, and wire ends to make sure they are secure.

rob, just an idea as you mention there was a little bouncing, check to see if the "button" in the dist cap where the rotor contacts it is still there, and complete good luck

6v att he top of the coil.. spin the engine over and see if it goes to -0- it should... that's when the points close. Might also crank over engine with the distribuitor cap off just to make sure the rotor spins...

report back.
