Hi Fellas,

About a year ago there was a post on this board for a web-site that supposedly allowed one to see their property from the space satellite. Just curious if I could check on the status of a property in Pensacola, FL.

Thanks in advance. John,PA

Just curious, what's with all the trucks lined up along the side of the road?

If that's what they are.... the shadows look like semi cabs.

Yes those are Semi's in the road..They are lined up waiting to enter the property at the end of the road..They were drilling for natural gas on that property and also storing equipment there..There are presently 1,300+ gas wells being operated in the county..

Up here our tax office renews the aerial photos every 5 yrs. when they start telling us that our properties have magically been re-valued. I always have to appeal the evaluation to the County Commissioners Board of Review.

I submitted a bid for supplying the airplane and pilot for the update photos. Like always, I am declined the opportunity because the requirements for the type and class of airplane is not available locally. Complex airplane, 250 hsp., etc.

There was a "retired" United Airlines Pilot who owned a small farm (airport) here in the county, and, like always, he was the one who always got awarded the successful bid.

When I had my 150 Cessna, and, by the way, certified by the FAA for aerial Photography, I photographed every square inch of the Gettysburg area, personal files, only.

POINT IS: You don't even have to be home when insurance and tax assessors come a'callin.

Thanks again..... John,PA

Rob was right. For security purposes, the military bases in the area of Pensacola are of more importance. Therefore, the pictures ain't no good.

John, the sat sites I've seen don't have 'real time' pics. Some of that mapping was done years ago. I believe you won't find yesterday's pic of your property.

Well, you are probably right. At least I would have a record of how things looked from above. Especially for a 80-90 ft. tall broad-leaf pine tree that is on a neighbor's property.

It is just one of those thoughts. Until they get the bridges inspected and shored-up, I ain't fix'n on going down. Right now airline tickets cost a fortune with no way to re-cupe the expense.

Thanks again, John,PA

I just checked the pics on my place. You can't get a close shot like it was. I heard Homeland Security was going to limit satellite pics on the internet and it seems someone did. 8-meters is the best resolution I can find and at that a house is just a dot. Used to get 1-meter and that was 'no detail' but you could see the shape.
Call your insurance man and let him do the ground work for you. You do need to try to protect your property or he won't pay for all the damages. He might try to tell you the damage happened because you didn't put plastic over it or some such. Gotta stay on those insurance guys.
I heard the insurance cos are wanting some people to pay one deductable for Charley, another deductable for Francis, and a third deductable for Ivan before the company pays anything. That's going to make the insurance adjusters real popular down there.
Good luck with it.

Thanks for the input. Actually, I just learned that what damage tothe property was minor. The house was built in 1928. Seems like most of the newer houses suffered more than we did.
