Upon another inspection of my newly aquired 44 2N I've started making a list of things it's missing. Just having a little trouble. I want to make sure I'm writing down the right part numbers.
I figured out I'm missing the whole water pump assy. I have P/N 8N 8508 (according to the MPC) and the fan. Nothing in between. I should have known when the guy delivering it said "wait, hold on, I have another piece for you" and handed me the fan. In the MPC is the number with the arrow pointing to a part on the exploded view the part number?
There is also a a bracket that holds a glass jar or something. I can't locate in the MPC. What goes here?
On the front I have the square can top but the rotor is exposed in front. Is that PN 12106? I'm just trying to get familiar with how to do this. I was thinking of doing what I need to do just to get the engine running. Not so sure now if that's the best coarse of action. I need to have a plan of attack on a tractor that has sat for the last 20 years. Last thing for now. If it has a generator does that mean it is still a 6v system? Posting a couple of pics. Thanks all, Eric

Your picture shows the I beam radius rod used on 9N tractors up to 42, the 44 2N would have a tube type radius rod , do you have a bolt thru the doglegs on the hood to fasten it, 2N, 42 up ; on 9N the hood fasteners are hidden inside the hood. I question if you have a 44, shows no oil line to govener like 2N's had, no oil line early 9N

Takes some getting used to. in reply to Eric ATL, 09-30-2004 14:45:12
Give it a couple-three years you'll be sailing throught that MPC.....
One hint, look in the back on p. 212 which is the alphabetical index. Look at 'pump, water' and see the part number is 8501. You got that and the year of your tractor and you are pretty much home free. NH and most parts houses can get you what you need. If you want to get down to it then look back up in the book for the 8501. The numbers are more or less in order and often near the illustration.
You need a mason jar for the air cleaner which is what that wire bail gizmo is all about. You can get original looking jars or you can get one at the hardware store in canning goods or you maybe you have something laying around the place.
12106 is the 'distributor housing', look over on p. 152. Parts diagrams/lists/books take some getting used to and if this is your first parts book you're going to need to give it some practice. Study the table of contents, look hard at the stuff in the back 20-pages or so, and try to get a feel for the madness.
It's an excellent bet and very most certain that if it has a genny it's 6v.

You"re gonna want to plug that oil return hole in the side of the block, and route the oil filter drain around the front of the engine to the rear plug of the governor. This lubes the governor better. I like the soda-can oil filler cap. ;Þ
Ain"t old iron fun???!!

Eric..... ....looks like your missing the 4-nipple crabcap p/n 9N-12106-C, the MPC calls it a distributor terminal housing assy, but most people just call-itt a distributor cap.

As for your water pump, its p/n 8N-8501, pump assy, (water) eff models 9N,2N,8N (all) 1939-52.

As you get used to the N-Ford Master Parts Catalog (MPC), you'll soon realize that the drawing number is the basic part number. You need to check for both the PRE-FIX (9N,2N,8N) and SUF-FIX (A,B,C) and the model effectives which will sometimes have a serialnumber. Year effectives are really related to the s/n. You'll also learn to check the back of the MPC for common hardware by their 5 & 6 digit p/n. Specialized hardware will have Fords 4 digit p/n..... ..... HTH, Dell
