I'm building a manune spreader and have one final problem to over come. I have a 1/2" shaft that I need to run thru a self contained ball bearing, and then I can bolt it to the under side of a steel angle iron. I'll need a pair that can carry a light load. I'm not far from Bakersfield, Ca. Any help would be great. Thanks,
Jim

I have a couple of new 5/8" pillow block bearings I'll sell. $5 each plus shipping. Surplus left over from when I made an overhead sander.

There's a trick to brg inserts. in reply to CVRancher, 10-07-2004 20:38:30
They have a cam lock scheme. Insert the shaft through the collar and then the bearing and then the other collar. Hold the bearing race and rotate the collar to lock it against the cam shaped bearing race. Get it tight and drive the set screw locking the collar on the shaft. Repeat for the other collar making sure both bearing cams are locked and the collars are set tight on the shaft.
Lots of guys fail to properly lock the collars on the bearing race and things start slipping down the road.

You want a pillow block and bearing insert. in reply to CVRancher, 10-07-2004 20:38:30
They are common and easy to come by. Tractor Supply has an assortment and the yellow pages has listings of bearing distributors or 'power transmission' or conveyers, like that.

Try McMaster Carr
Type in Bearing in the search box, then select base mount.
Hope that helps,
