I have just changed my 8n to a solid state ignition. It ran fine for a few hours. Now I am getting good fire and plenty gas to carb. and I can put my hand over inlet of carb while cranking seems to be drawing very well, but will still not fire a lick! help!

Good spark and plenty of gas... in reply to John Carr, 10-09-2004 19:39:58
Subjective stuff there. A 'good spark' is a snappy, blue spark across the spark plug. A yellow spark is not a 'good spark' and if that's all you got you're running on luck and it will fail at crunch time.
'Good flow' to the carb is a 'full-pipe' flow out the fuel line. A pretty good flow out the fuel line is not good enough. 'Full-pipe' flow. You got that then remove the brass elbow and clean the screen.
You got that and it ran before it will run again. Starter fluid is a good way to get a handle on the problem.

Gas, air, compression, and spark.. at the right time.. check that e-ignition instalation and if it is the kind with the trigger collar.. make sure it is aligned correctly. if it is the other (kit)kind that still uses the breaker contacts to fire a transisterized module.. check the points.

Before you do anything, spray ether into the carb while cranking.. if it runs on ether.. it could be fuel related.. like water / blocked mainjet.. etc.

If you have spark to the plugs, and gas that is apparently being sucked into the cylinders, the most likely thing is fouled spark plugs. (You didn't have a slug of water in your gas, did you?)

With today's gas, and todays spark plugs, which no longer have a glaze on the ceramic on the electrode side of the insulator, sometimes fouling them doesn't take much!

the spark is good and blue, I have a full line of fuel to carb, I have taken the carb apart completely and blew it out good, I have installed new plugs, I ran a compression check on all cylinders which all were between 115/120 I have put fresh gas in all cyl. and still cannot get the darned thing to start.
