I bought one of the TSC Huskee 34-ton units a couple of years ago and filled it with their universal tractor hydraulic fluid. Been running like a top ever since and has split over 100 cords. Got 5 more to do for this winter, then it gets some Sta-Bil and put up till the spring.

UTF and plain hyd ( jack) oil are not the same. ( i'd bet UTF is a tad thicker.. though not much) I think TSC sells aw46 or something like that for hyd fluid. Someone may have to correct me on that number though.

What does the manual for the log splitter suggest?

Thanks Soundguy! The manual only said to fill with 5 to 8.5 gallons of hydraulic fluid. The lady at TSC told me it only needed 4 gallons. I bought a 5 gallon bucket of their universal and she seemed to run just fine. Thanks for the reply!!---Rob
