Jim -I found a tranny case for my 8N at Jim Cook's Tractors in Clinton, MO for $100. He's got salvage parts for all kinds of tractors; also some new in the box 8/9/2-N gauges, clutches, brakes, etc. It was a 2 1/2 drive one way but well worth it. Now that I've got myself into this pickle I'm wondering if there are any tricks for taking the tranny parts out of one case and putting 'em into another. 1- What seals do I need (I know about the input shaft seal)? 2- How do you drive out the two horizontal bars that transverse the front of the tranny case and then how do you reinstall them (the one for the clutch fork and the other for the LH brake)? 3- Since I'll be separating the tranny case from the rear end is there any preventive maintenance I should be doing in that area (pump or PTO)? 4- Is moving the transmission just a matter of installing the gears/shafts in the right order or is there some kind of alignment gear, notch, or tool I should be looking for? 5- Any shims, spacers, or bearings required for the transmission gears? 6- Any other newbie advice for this job greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a Happy Turkey Day!!
