I just bought a "new" tranny case that had been out in the bone yard for some time and now has rust inside and out. Should I be concerned about the rust on the inside? Tank dip time, wire brush, or don't sweat it? Also, how critical is it to replace the brake and clutch shaft bushings? The old ones are still in the case I bought. Thanks for all the help.

Rob ,degrease ,wire brush ,pessure wash ,then blow dry with compressed air inside and out.You dont want any dirt or loose rust to mess you up!The main thing is CLEAN,CLEAN,CLEAN !!! Pay particulaur attennition to the oil gallies around the inside ,they look like a little gutter and are prone to have build ups in the corners where you cant see um . Then check the bolt threads on every hole .You can probably reuse the bushings if they check ok but there only about $5 each ,more than likley half of the wear will be on the shaft anyway.Good Luck

Lots of chemical spray or spread on preps will make short order of surface rust.(naval jelly) That would be my modus operandi... as you don't want something flaking off and destroying a bearing.

Mike those bushing ID's and see where you are at.
