Hello fellas,

A coworker of mine has a 96 Dodge 1500 ram and is going to have to have his transmision rebuilt. From what he described, it sounds like the torque converter self destructed, among other things. Any idea what a ballpark price for a rebuild might be? I told him 1500-2000 dollars, and just got worried that I might have told him wrong. By the way, it is a 4-wheel drive. Thanks again for the advise!!!!!---Rob

Tore up the overdrive in my '90 Ram Chugger in mid nowhere. FWD married transfer case automatic. New Jasper automatic cost me a little over twenty two hundred installed.

My '98 Dodge 2500 2WD tranny cost $2200 from a tranny shop. That was total cost for rebuild and install. It failed again 14 months later, but they stood behind it and built it again. So far so good (it's been another 14 months...fingers are crossed...if it fails again the truck's going to the scrap yard).

As an example, a factory rebuilt, updated, warranteed tranny from a Dodge dealer will be $1800 to $2200 WITHOUT installation.

Some tranny shops around the country have a reputation for being good at repairing and updating these to be as good, or even better than the factory exchange units, though, and MAYBE a little cheaper.
