hey everyone it started!!!!!

I checked and re-checked the ohms and everything. The cam is rotating as the rotor is in a different position each time I pull the cap off.

I scrubbed the screw that the coil spring sits into as it was pretty greasy. I stretched the spring down 2 or 3 times to make sure it hit the screw. I sanded off the points with some very fine sand paper I had then blew them off with some air.

While I was putting the distrib in my wife was jabbering in my ear about getting someone to fix it, and how maybe it wont ever start (is it possible to trade a wife in on a tractor?).

Hit the starter switch a couple of times and she fired up, but I killed it as I moved the throttle to slower. Hit the starter again and got it started a second time but them it slowly died like it was in need of fuel. I think the crud in the fuel tank is stopping the fuel from going into the sediment bowl as it is just dripping from the fuel line no stream at all (I think an old man may even be able to pee faster than this).

Thank you to all of you. I know it was getting tiring trying to think of what it could be but I really think it was the greasy screw and the compressed spring on the coil. You guys are the greatest.

Now I think I will let it sit until tomorrow night when the carb will fill with gas and start it again and see if it dies for lack of fuel, then it may be a good cleaning for the inside of the fuel tank.

Thank you again, from James

Congratulations for sticking with it. Pretty rewarding huh? Good timing to show the wife that "you still have it".

About this old man taking a pee....would this be while drinking beer and celebrating... how old is old anyway?

Congrats! Now, on to the fuel problem. The fuel system has three "filters", actually sceens. The first one is on top of the sediment bowl IN the gas tank, the second is in the sediment bowl & the third is in the brass elbow going into the carb. Forget about the one inside of the tank for now; remove & clean the other two. If they are corroded, replace them. Then, put it all back together & check the fuel flow. If it's not flowing well, pull the entire sediment bowl out of the gas tank & try that. Remember.....after you "drain" the tank, you will still likely have a gallon of gas in it because the reserve feature on the shutoff probably doesn't work. So, get a pan ready!

don't let your wife hear this but you could have a female tractor and just needed a female to talk to. i've gotta male tractors and when they start acting up i threaten to kick um in the dip stick and they straighten right up.
now its time to put your wife on that tractor and go out and get ya another 9n2n8n your choice
glad to hear you got it going.....

When my '40 9n acts up A good kick in the PTO usually helps.

If your wife starts driving the 9N you might have to get another 9/2/8/NAA just so you can get some seat time in. Hopefuly you will not spend ALL yur time fixing BOTH of them.
