FEL mods other strange questions

I'm just about to the point where I can install my Wagner "Ford-2" loader on my 2N. Got the crank pulley swapped out this weekend, installed the front mount along with drilling the 2 extra 1/2" bolt holes and have the front of the tractor back together. I think I've pretty much figured out how to mount the FEL.

Sometime down the road I'd like to replace the single acting lift cylinders with double acting cylinders. Currently the cylinders have 2" shafts and from what I can tell the bore is 2" as well.

I've been looking at different replacement lift cylinders and the common size seems to be 1.5" shaft with 2" or 2.5" bore. What I'm wondering is will down sizing the shaft from 2" to 1.5" be a problem as far as strength goes? My gut feel is it won't be but I thought I'd ask to see what others think.

One thing that just hit me this evening was whether or not my 2N snorkel air cleaner pipe will be in the way of the loader mechanism. Boy I hope not!

I've been wondering when I remove the FEL when not needed would it be possible to mound the stinger pump on a bracket up front and plumb it back into the 3-point hydraulic system to provide live lift capabilities? Similar I think to what the "Live Thang" does?

Thanks for any responses!

Brad

I also would like to mount my front pump to the front of the tractor for other implement uses. My pump pumps 14GPM and according to ZANE, the pump cannot be used for LIVE HYDRAULICS because of too much flow. He did mention something about a control valve that may limit the flow rate but is not certain it will work. If you mount your pump to the tractor rather than the loader I would like to see how you do it.

I'm no expert on hydraulics but it sounds like what Zane is referring to is some kind of flow diverter that bypasses any excess flow back to the reservoir. I'll have to ask some of the engineers at work about this. If I remember right the 9N/2N/8N hydraulic pressure doesn't get above 1400 psi and the stinger types probably approach 2000 psi. That might have something to do with it as well.

If I do mount it separate from the FEL I'll probably do something like Hobo has done. Looks pretty strate forward. If you're looking for a bracket to mounnt to the front of your tractor look at the drawing I have on my website. I drew up in Autocad the one that came with my FEL. All you would have to do is add some mounting plates to it for the pump itself.

It's not so much that the psi is the problem ( 1500-1700 oem ).. but the flow rate. The fords hyds were designed for 2.85gpm.. some o fthe later hundred series used 4 gpm or so.. That whopping 14 gpm pump.. if used for 'live hyds' would snatch the lift arms up so fast you'd never be able to use them.. plus the valving may not be able to displace that much oil. I'd deffinately find a flow diverter and plumb a low gpm back to my oem hyds and run it live.. and use the rest of the oil for a loader or power steering.. etc.
