Flushing the insides of a tube type FEL

Like the subject line says, how would I go about flushing the insides of a tube frame Wagner loader? I'm getting ready to mount the loader and start using it but its sat for an untold number of years. I figure it would probably be a good thing to try and clean the insides a little.

Thanks,

Brad

Hi BK

Kerosene is an exellent grinding compound
It will damage your pump permanently
I use kerosene as cutting oil to drill in metal
and does a great job.

For flushing I suggest diesel fuel it is ligthly lubricant and will not damage your system.

My 2 cents

Joe,

Diesel (and kerosene) worry me in at least one way, my pump is a gear pump and I'd be a little leary of running the diesel through something that compresses it. Maybe I'm a little paranoid but.....?!!!

Thanks for the suggestion,

Brad

Hi

In diesel engines the injection pump compresses
fuel from 1000 to 3000 psi depending of the engine...injection pumps last sometimes 3 times
the loader pump.

Kerosene under pressure will grind all moving parts.

My 2 cents

What a timely question. When my Wagner WM-4 FEL pump failed I removed the FEL from my Jubilee and found the pump bearing had failed and the shaft had worn considerably. I know the shaft metal had contaminated the oil. I drained it, replaced the pump, but never reinstalled the loader mainly because I didn't know how I would flush the system. Thought I would reinstall the loader with fresh oil and install an in-line filter. Then after a few hours of run time, replace the oil and filter. I might take Dave's advise and try running 5 gallons of kerosene through it first.

Brad, kerosene works wonders, I just used it on the insides of my newly aquired 1948 8N

How do you flush the tranny/Hyd. out with Kerosene, and how much? What is the basic procedure?

Thanks

I don't know the correct answer but I flushed mine with Auto trans fluid. It's high detergent, good lube and is technically a hydraulic oil. I have permanently installed a filter on the return. Mine had sat for an unknown nuber of years when I got it, but judging by the rust it was tens of years. The seal went out on the bucket dump cylinder once and luckily the filter caught it. My only problem seems to be moisture I have changed the hydralic oil several times and it is still a little white.
