MANIFOLD LEAKING

On my 9N, I'm hearing a loud clacking/chattering noise from the rear cylinder area of the engine. There is also a lot of air coming out from between the mainifold and the engine block by the rear cylinder. I'm not a mechanic, but I suspect that the manifold gasket is leaking. I tightened up the manifold nuts but that didn't appear to do any good. Is the only solution changing out the gasket? Can I damage the engine if I continue to run it with the leak? Thanks in advance for your advice and help.

My 8N does the same thing around #4 cylinder. Take manifold off and see if engine block is ate away/pitted around #4. If it is two gaskets won't help. Clean pits really well and fill in with JB Weld. Fellows on other forums say this works well and is a cheap fix. If you continue to run it like this will only get worse. Good luck.

Bob..... ..Robert is right, that errosion will continue to gitt worse, and while J&B Weld is good stuff, theres BETTER HIGH-TEMP PUCKY to seal yer errosion. Just go shoppin' at the autoparts store. Follow instructions..... ...Dell

Bob,it seems if the manifold will leak it does it at the rear where the exhust pipe is connected course you state it's leaking where the manifold is attached to the engine at no4 cyclinder and many times overa period of time the exhust gas "eats" away at the manifold and even the engine port.If it were mine I would use 2 applications of gaskets before trying anything else. Some fileing to true the manifolf might work. Otherwise new manifold $55.
