XP is about as good as it gets. Once you use it awhile you'll wonder why you didn't swap sooner. Make sure the restore feature stays turned on. It'll save your rear end sooner or later. The big objection to XP is that it gives Microsoft a lot of control it didn't have before. But I've noticed all of the big name software folks are getting that control gradually just like Microsoft.

Naa.. just pulled it out of the box about 8am this morning. Been pulling my hair out since. I was the last person in the office to have a win98 pc.. everyone else went to xp last year. ( I hate xp.. ) now I gotta use it... yuk!

Trust me!! You will enjoy XP a whole lot more than Win. 98 once you get used to it. Just give it time to grow on you.

it's so.. hands off. It won't let a 'real' computer person do anything.

I'm used to the old days of command line interfaces.. and when you could actually 'fix' a computer.. instead of replacing it!

I love XP. Steep learning curve. But worth it.

You mentioned cookies. I use a cookie manager.
Cookie Wall by analogX. It only allows the cookies I tell it to allow.
Works like a firewall program for cookies.

i can identify with you sounder, i also have xp now, and thats up from my old windows 95! should have givin it to a musuem , but my winchester .30 .30 got to it first, kind of fun, - anybody got a big screen they dont want? i like it now, but for a few weeks it was kind of like trying to haul cattle with a corvette, be sure to get some adware 6.0 and norton or some other virus protection, there still a lot of ways viruses can nail a xp unit, ericlb

Good advice. I've got my firewall, mcaffee, and popupstopper / adaware going now.
