FYI: Tank valve

Despite my best efforts the tank valve reserve tap was plugged this spring. I removed the valve, losing a bunch of gas (ticked off about that with the price of gas like it is), and found the reserve tap hole covered by trash.
Make a long story short, removed the valve stem, grabbed the WD-40 with the straw and squirted it down in there to flush out the trash, which it did, and discovered that it all works better then expected. Better, because that straw is just the right size to start down that tap hole. No poking with wire, no nitpicking, just blew it clean and good to go.

When draining gas, it may be difficult to get the last bit especially when the reserve is plugged, try using a cheap kero pump to get more out then jack up one side of the machine. Or park on an incline whereas the fuel is tilted away from the hole.Either way it may help a bunch. LOL 8^)

I should have parked on a hill! I figured I got it all the way it was; until I pulled the valve. My hose was way out into the middle of the tank. That tank has a baffle so I couldn"t get to the valve. Anyway, I thought I had it all. Good thinking about the hill. Here in Kansas hills don"t pop into our minds so much; unless we"re thinking of Colorado or something.
Live and learn...thanks.

Same size as the straw on a can of carb cleaner too :)

Rob, Glad it's working for you... I find that the top half of the tank is just as easy as the bottom half to keep full... without the negative consequence of running out. Further the extra weight helps keep the massive horsepower under control by keeping the front end down...heh, heh.

My carb doesn't ever seem to leak and I've never felt the need to turn the fuel valve off or otherwise monkey with it. My 2N sits for 3 or 4 months at a time and doesn't seem to suffer for it. I don't need to remember to turn the valve on when I do use the tractor or remember to turn the key off after running the carb dry...

I think keeping equipment shedded saves endless trouble, though not everyone can or seems to want to. duey

I don"t shut off my tank valves either. Not often the reserve tap plugs. I do like to drain a bit off the bottom of the tank at the oil change because it takes any moisture out of there. Fuel system problems are pretty rare once I get them in good working order.
I don"t know how I got this trash in there. It looked like maybe a bit of straw or something was included. Same crap might have fallen in there when I opened the tank; hard telling.

My dad's 2N quit. Spark & no go juice. Pulled the elbow filter off the carb and it looked like a mini round bale. Checked the tank & no gas cap! Hey Dad- wheres the gas cap? "Don't know- lost it last spring."
