Need a little advice. I drained my radiator to replace the "farmerized" lower hose to the correct one to allow my to tighten the fan belt. When I pulled the rad cap I noticed oil. Just some black oil not all baby pooped up. The antifreeze that drained out looks good. Should I flush system before refilling? I plan on rebuilding this summer, what should I look for while doing that? 51 side distributor if it matters.

Bob..... ....dunnno, could be farmer added radiator additive, waterpump lube or radiator leak seal. ...OR... could be leaky headgasket. Time to do the dreaded compression test. (Ford specs: 90psi min) Look for 1-low cylinder reading or 2-adjacent low reading cylinders. You need to do a compression test ennyways before you make the momentious decision to overhaul yer engine..... ..Dell

Ford operator"s book says look for "excessive" oil in the water or words to that effect so a little bit of isn"t a problem. It"s a problem when it shows up getting worse.
You need to work the archives and watch the board to pick up rebuild tips and info. You also need the I&T FO-4 Shop Manual. This site sells them and so do many, most. or all farm or tractor retail outlets in most, many, or all towns. Then you can make sense from specific questions and answers.
