Ok dumb question. I am parting out a 2N and can't figure out how to remove the rear hubs.

Not a dumb question...the hubs dont come off! On the 9N and 2N, the cast iron hub was actually cast onto the axle itself. On the end of the axle trumpet are 6 nuts/studs. Remove the nuts and the whole axle/brake drum/hub slides out together. There is no way to remove the hub from the axle...if you do, it's broken! The 6 small rivets are non servicable as well. Be careful removing them as the cast iron hub is awkwardly heavy for one person to handle if you're not expecting it.

Thank you. I was really lost. So I guess there is some sort of retainer that holds the drum/axle to the backing plate?

Not really. The brake drum is riveted to the cast hub so you cannot remove the drum from the axle without drilling out the rivets. The backing plate slips off, but it more or less comes out with the axle when you remove it. You can't see it in the pictures, but there is a cast iron bearing retainer hidden underneath the backing plate in the second picture. That's where the studs are coming out from and what holds the axle onto the tractor.

You have to break part of the retainer in order to replace the bearing. You actually don't break the retainer, but a press fit ring that keeps the retainer and bearing from sliding back down the axle. All of this is shown in the F0-4 manual in an exploded view that may help you get a hold of things and how they go together. The bearing presses onto the axle and a press fit ring presses onto the axle on the tractor-side of the bearing and keeps it from coming back off. The retainer for the bearing is trapped between the bearing and the hub and is the part with the studs that keeps the whole assembly from coming out of the axle trumpet. This is also the part that has the sure seals installed on it in the second picture. Hope this helps.
