Ok, I have a 51 side distributor 8N with a worn out engine. Happen to run across a 2N with a good engine. I am planning on putting the front dist. engine in the 8N. I know my genny won't work on the 2N block because of the oil fill tube and the 2N genny is bad. Because of this and past charging/starting troubles I plan on a 12 volt conversion. Having said that would it be better to convert the front dist. to 12 volt or swap necc parts to intall side dist. and convert that to 12 volt. I like the easy access of the side dist. but don't want to make this a long term and costly project. Any input of past experience or how to would be greatly appreciated.

Bob..... ....convert to frontmount 12v and be done with it.

Heres the deal. To convert the front-mount N-Engine to side-mount, besides the obvious engine front camshaft cover, you need to change the CAM-SHAFT so it will drive yer side-mount distributor..... ...Dell

Converting the 2N engine to 8N side mount dist means just converting about everything, including the block. No mounting holes for the generator on the left side on 2N block. Cylinder head is different on left side as oil filter was moved rearward, no mounting holes on r.h. front of cylinder head for coil just to name a few...thanks, Kelly.
