Ol' fella jumped started his tractor today.

He was mowing outside Nickerson, Ks.

Tractor was in gear, ran over him, and a family member found the upper part of his body. The mower got the lower part.

Jump start from the seat. Just do it that way.

I don't get it. Was this with an 9-2-8n? Mine won't let you engage the starter unles it is in neutral. Thought all fords were this way,unless it was another make of tractor. My wd-45 allis could be started in gear and I sure learned to triple check to make sure it waas in neutral the first time I tried to jump it and had it in gear like an idiot.

He may have jumped the starter with the ignition switch "on". If it was a 6 volt tractor, sometimes you jump it with 12 volt only across the starter.

He jump started it. You bypass the gear interlock when you jump start a tractor. If the key is on, you connect jump cables to the starter, it can fire while in gear and take off down the row.
They didn"t show pictures of the tractor so I don"t know what he was running.
