I OWN A 41 9N AND RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE THE GEAR SHIFT BOOT. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS I CAN'T SEEM TO GET THE NEW BOOT TO SLIDE OVER THE KNUCKLE WHERE THE SHIFT GOES IN THE THE TRANNY. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE A BIG HELP. THANKS

Type "shifter boot" into the search box at the top of the page. You'll get about a jillion pieces of "sage advice", from hot water to K-Y Jelly!

I was working on mine in the winter time and happened to have an electric space heater in the shop. I sat the boot in front of the heater for a couple minutes to soften it and it went on. I didn't say it just slipped right on, i still had to tug and push a bit, but it did go on. After all, you want it to be tight to help keep the water out of that tranny.
