Just gassed up an hour ago for $2.839, as usual I went to Exxon at I-95 & US-1 N of Daytona Beach. Stations at that intersection ranged from Mobil at $2.779 to Race-Trac at $3.099 strange, Mobil is always the highest and Race-trac is always the lowest, what is going on!

Michigan:
sunday: 2.60/gal
wednesday: 3.30/gal

that large of an increase although there was technically no less supply here, so the rise was an anticipation of supply and demand, i call that gouging.

$2.89 at 3pm in North Western MO. Was told to expect over $3.00 by morning. Heard it was already over $3.00 in Kansas City. I'm not haying - cheaper to buy hot wire and turn the animals loose on the fields.

If I sold ply-wood for $100 a sheet, I'd go to prison.

This is nothing more than legalized stealing. Our gas here in Union City, TN went from 2.47 to 2.89 in two days. What the heck can we do?

Upstate NY, Fulton area is 2.79 at the low end to 3.29 on the high end for regular. I drive by 5 stations on the way home. Guess which station was empty, and which one has cars lined up into the road... By the way, the 3.29 station was 2.91 this morning!

OK, now. Lessee...Economics 101: Law of Supply and Demand There is a shortage of refining capability in the U.S. (This is frequently blamed on EPA regulatotions which is easy to believe...but is actually false. The reason refineries have not been built in recent years is because the money ain't in refining....it's in exploration.) So...with a shortage of refining capability,...there is a resulting increase in gasoline prices due to shortage of gasoline. And, naturally, ....since there's a higher gasoline price...the public will believe it must be due to higher crude oil prices....so that's what we'll tell 'em. This helps support the ever increasing prices-per-barrel we'll charge for the crude. They'll never remember that since there's a shortage of refining capability that there's no way to REFINE ALL THAT CRUDE...which will result in an excess of crude on the market...which will lead to falling crude prices.... So we'll just keep raising the price of crude and tell 'em it's a vicious circle. Translation: It's all B.S. If there's a shortage of refineries,...and if Katrina just shut down even more refineries....then the price of oil should plummet due to excess crude availability. What possible good will it do to release the Naval Reserves? None. But it's more B.S. to distract the public with. They are all thieves. The oil companies and their political puppets.

There isn't much incentive to improve refining capacity is there? If I had a 50 year old facility that was an effective bottleneck in the supply/demand loop I wouldn't be rushing to fix it either. I suspect major oil companies all explore, drill, refine and distribute-a closed loop system that is meticuously maintained. At the end of the day it's all about market tolerance. As long as the market will tolerate the price (applies to any commodity) the price will stay as high as the market's ability to absorb it.

Here's what gets me, who drills for oil? the oil companies, who buys the crude? the oil companies, who refines the crude? the oil companies, who retails the gas? the oil companies.

So who speculates on oil futures? the oil companies.

If ever there were a case for global collusion the oil industry most certainly qualifies.

Who's going to stop them? not a single government in the developed world since they all generate huge revenues by taxing gas. Time to bring back what the French called the "national razor"

BP has an add on TV wherein they proclaim there commitment to alternative energy and a clean environment, by their investment in natural gas!

How stupid do they think we are!

I used to think that the problems with western governments were so bad we needed to find another Teddy Roosevelt, but now I'm starting to think we need a Thomas Jefferson, if you get the picture.
