Hydraulic line broke and there was a fire. The 60-yr old driver jumped off and the tractor ran over him. Down near Hutchinson.
I do not know the tractor, what he was pulling, or if it was the tractor or the impliment that killed him.

Two guys have gotten killed recently in this area. One of them was getting something hitched to his 8n and the PTO caught his shirt. It twisted and twisted until it squeezed the life out of him. Another guy was pulling a stump with his 8n, it flipped over and crushed him, and that was the end.

These 8Ns are very dangerous - these were both experienced farmers who got snuffed by their own tractors. I love my 8N and prefer it over a new tractor for now, but thankfully, such a deathtrap could never be sold on the market today. This is a fine example of how government regulations both improve a tool and save lives, at a very small cost to the consumer.

Hate to say it, but tractors don't kill people. People doing stupid things on tractors kill people. Attempting to attach anything to a tractor with the pto shaft spinning is asking to have your arm removed or worse and pulling stumps with a tractor is like playing Russian roulette will only one empty chamber. There are "safe" ways to do it, but obviously this individual wasn't doing it or he would still be alive today. I work in a very busy emergency room and have always threatened to have t-shirts made that say, "WE CURE EVERYTHING BUT STUPIDITY.....AND YOU ARE TERMINAL". We now ask every patient who comes in what they could have done to have prevented their visit, if only to get them to think a little about cause and effect. There is a reason why that little guy on your shoulder tells you, "Don't do that!" It is to save your butt. I'm sorry about the loss of those two lives, but please don't blame it on the tractors.
