The brass nut on the last stud (closest to the steering wheel) stripped off, causing the manifold to pull away from the block. This, of course caused an exhaust leak. I has obviously had this problem for some time, I just haven't noticed until the other day. Lots of soot around the problem. I tried to cheat and put a regular nut on the stud in an atempt to pull the manifold back down snug. I couldn't get the bolt on due to the stud being boogered up. So it looks like I am gonna have to suck it up and pull the manifold and replace that stud. Problem is, it looks like it is in there pretty good. Since I cannot get two nuts on ther and use that old trick, any ideas how I can get that stud out?
Once I do get it out, do you think the manifold will be warped beyond use? Thanks again for any advise!----Rob

You might want to use a thread chaser to clean up the threads. some of them look like a nut and you use a socket to run it on. Might save a little work. If I`m thinking right that should be a 7/16-20 thread. Just a thought-Bill

Rob..... ...would you believe that thats the reason for BRASS-NUTTS? they're supposed to STRIP 'cuz they ain't strong. This way yer studds (50ft/lbs) stay stuck into yer wet-water jacket. Just remove all yer brassnutts ($50c, cheap) and use the appropriate thread cleaning die (most likely 7/16-20thd) to clean-up the studd threads and install with hi-temp anti-size pucky at 27ft/lbs. Simple, eh?..... .Dell

If possible weld regular oversize nut onto stud.this worked for me.
