BIGMOE..... ...while spittin' an' sputterin' is generally the sign of WEAK SPARKIES. The "all-most wannna start" is a sign of WEAK COMPRESSION. Unfortunately, alotta 12v conversions are made as a "band-aide" to a worn-out engine. Its called "dynamic-compression" which results of hittin' yer 6-volt starter with 12-volts and really SPINNIN' the engine for higher dyanmic compression and eazier starting. Time to do the dreaded COMPRESSION TEST. Ford's specs: 90 psi, min (dry). Take all yer sparkies out, and plug yer compression tester into enny sparkie hole. Spinner fer at least 5-puffs and writter down. Now, squirt about 1-oz of regular engine oil down the sparkie hole to seal the worn piston rings. And take yer "wet" compression reading, and ritter down. Good engine will-up the compression +10psi. Worn engine will-up the compression +20psi. Engine in need of overhaul, wet compression will-up +30psi. NO increase in compression (wet); burned exhaust valve; or blown headgaskett. Almost starts is almost always OVERHAUL TIME..... ..respectfully, Dell
