1951 model. Ag tires with no chains or weight. No loader or extras and pulling a back blade. Flat, level 700ft. Slipped too much until I lifted the blade just off the gravel then it did fine tossing the snow good in 3rd gear. Didn"t really need to take a 2nd pass but I did.
Should have stopped after one pass because it hadn"t stop snowing. I have 3" more to move today which should be just a single pass with the blade full down.

Yep back blades on weight on the rear and no chains don't mix well. I sure like the set up I have. Back blade with 6 suit case weights, fluid in the tires and a big 9 foot V plow mounted on the loader bucket. 3rd gear wide open and boy does the snow fly. One pass and your in to the gravel, but thats also mounted on an 841 with sherman

I like this just fine. 10-inches is a pretty big snow around here and it won"t happen every year. Since that last post I went out and pushed that 3 or 4 inches off and cleaned up in the turn-around.
And did some shovel and sweep work. All that in less than 40-minutes. I"m good.
That front blade sounds like fun but I think headed North would be a bad deal with the snow blowing back into my face. My lane is North-South so I guess I"ll stick with the back blade.
That dang 51 would hardly turn left today. It loosened up some with use but I got that hard-left hinky thing working. Maybe some grease would help. Be good to push any moisture out of the spindles and whatnot. No telling.

Rob,
I have a 600' flat drive and my first couple times sounds like yours lots of spinning, I would go about 75-100' and that was it, had to lift the blade and push the pile in reverse off to the side. I shortend the top link some to give the blade a little less agressive angle and use the position control lever in the up mode and use the lock nut on the Hydraulic touch control to set the blade to a light touchdown, Now I can go all the to the end and decide where i want to push it to. I have loaded tires plus some chains, but i have needed to put the chains on yet.

Yep 50 cents worth of grease will save $500 worth of fixing later. I live where theres not much snow but when we do get it a back blade would be like trying to clear a foot ball field and that doesn't work well. I have 2 miles of drive way that I have to keep the snow off of so the only way to go is with that big 9 foot wide V plow. And even then it takes more then an hour to do.

My 8N has internal mods that give me remote hydraulics for the two rams on my Leland McGee Model A front dozer blade. One day I might build a snow blade to fit the mounts and then I will be ready to plow up a storm.
Then I would want a cab.

You know I never have any problems with snow in the face when I use my V plow. But I sure wouldn't mind haveing a heat hoeser for my 801. There are time I wish one of my bigger tractors had a loader on then I could move the snow a lot faster. Oh well the 801/841 has been a good tractor and has been since 1882 when we got it. I guess I use it more then any of the other 15 tractors I have.

801/841 is that the Selectospeed? What do you think about that tranny after all these years? Sounds like you are ok with it.

Nope thats the 4 speed tranny, couldn't give me a SOS tractor. It also has the 3 speed sherman set up but I don't use that much.
