Ok guy's this has me stumped! The serial number I found on the engine block doesn't look anything like the ones I've seen for identifying these old tractors. Here's what I get:

0-1439G2OAT

Any ideas?

Little..... ...while the maximum 8N engine serial number is quoted as 8N-524076 (just 6-digits), you are quoting a 9-digit serial number.

Howsomevers; flathead N-Engines are INTERCHANGEABLE and many N-Engines were sold for stationary engine applications like oilwell pumps, irrigation pumps, railroad refridgation cars, haybailers, electric light generating plants, WW2 jeeps; just to name a few "other".

Since there are very few serial number specific engine changes that are NOT INTUITIVE OBVIOUS, I wouldn't worry about it.

I have NO KNOWLEDGE of other non-tractor engine serial numbering schemes..... ..Dell

I was thinking maybe the original engine had been replaced with this one, allot can happen in 60 years. Is there any other locations on the tractor that would indicate the model year?

Thanks, Bill

Here's a link to a similar thread about 4 pages back. The discussion at that time was about an 8N. Not all that was said may apply to a 9N or 2N. The link by TOH is still useful for any N-series Ford.

very helpful, I'll check it out when it gets light. Just traying to narrow down the model year, but any or all of the components could have been changed over the years. So I guess it could be 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, and 46. HAHA!
