How do I test a selenoid on an original 6 volt starter /front mount dist. 1950 8N ?

Connecting the battery to the correct stud is imperative for it to work.

Grounding the 3rd small terminal, should make the two big lugs common.

So you need a battery, and 3 test clip/wires, and an VOM meter or test lamp. Commect one test clamp from the base of the solenoid to battery ground, connect the other test clamp to the big lub that the batter hooks to. this is the one on the 'right' side of the solenoid, if the little terminal was facing away from you. now, hook your test lamp from the other big lug to battery ground.. no lamp should be on. now jumper the 3rd terminal to ground.. lamp shoul light up. To use a vom, connect it the same way and choose a votlage setting.. when you jumper the 3rd terminal, vom should show battery volts..

This isn't load test.. but you can do that with the starter itself..
