I was pulling some broken fence post and Frances stopped running. I had rebuilt her carb with success. So I figured that I should rebuid,(tune up) the distributor. Did everything as I have many times before but can't get a spark at the sparkies. The coil is emmiting a spark to the distro, but nothing at the sparkies. I am at my busy time of year and don't have a clue. Thanks in advance. Rob

Look to make certain that your points are actually opening and closing. If you monkeyed with the points at all, they might have become loose and no longer open when on the lobe of the distributor cam. It has, unfortunately, happened to me recently and caused me an enormous headache until I finally figured it out.

Make sure the VERY thin copper strap that runs from under the screw the distributor spring touches to the base of the points is still in tact and not broken. This ate my lunch once - I now have a strip of tin from a Skoal can there as you can not buy replacement straps for the front mount distributors. If you have an old set of points, you can salvage the thin copper strap that runs on the inside of the arm for this as well.

Good luck,
Dan

You know after deciephering dell's incrypted message, it dawned on me to gently stretch the pig tail and see if that works. Dan, I know what you're saying. I used my multi tester to make sure there is contact there. I have signal where I'm supposed to have and no signal where I'm not supposed to have. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks youze guyz. Rob..... ....ya mucke'round with yer frontmount ignition changing points, didja remember to "gently stretch" the squarecan ignition coils danglin' thingy?

ALWAYS good bet, iff'n yer engine stopped fer summ reason and won't restart, ya flooded and CONTAMINATED yer sparkies with INVISABLE no-lead gasoline and all yer sparkies are dribblin' off and NOT SPARKLE.

Replace yer dirty sparkies with NEW CLEAN Auto-lite #437 sparkies, bettcha starts right up..... ....Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

I did replace the plugs with the Autolite 437's and it ran great. Mind you I just replaced a leaky sediment bowl but I'm getting good fuel delivery. I'm wondering if possibly the pig tail is shorting against something. I've got spark to the coil as well as at the bottom of the coil. It's not gettin thru the distro.Does you know what position the wire clamp inside the distro is suppossed to be in? It seems awful close to the pigtail. Just a thought. Thanks for the quick response. Rob
Does you know what position the wire clamp inside the distro is suppossed to be in? It seems awful close to the pigtail.
The Points Plate Wire Clip has a "loop" that allows clearance for the Pigtail when installed correctly. The Clip will rotate such that the Loop is centered to the pigtail.

BTW: If you messed with static timing it is possible that the pigtail is touching the Clip and /or your pigtail is not contacting the CENTER of the concave screw. If you center the plate and only adjust timing, if you need to, under load. Most of your ignition problems will be History

Hope This Helps,
