How does one remove the crankshaft ratchet? What size socket is that? I'd prefer not to have to pull the whole crankshaft.

Rob;

On my 2N the crankshaft ratchet took a 1 3/8" socket. I used an impact wrench and had no trouble with the crankshaft turning.

Thanks
Jeff

Rob

If I remember it is a 1 and 5/16 inch socket. I could only get it in 3/4 inch drive. Pricy for just 15 seconds of work. If you can loan one from a neighbor.

Well, one more chance to get back what I put into my 3/4" socket set that I bought for hub nuts.

Any hints to preventing the crank from turning? I was just going to lodge a piece of wood in there.

Stuff one end of a long soft rope into any sparkplug hole and the piston will run up against the rope and you will have all the purchase you need to un-torque your crankshaft pully bolt with a 1 5/16 socket..... .Dell

What is the condition of the rest of the engine. Is this the only part coming off? Is the engine still on the tractor? Is the pan off?

Many ways, but descibe you situation first.

Rob

Put a piece of 2X4 between the crank throw and block and it should break free fairly easily
