Anyone know where I can find pictures or description of how this is connected to the lift cover? Mine is just hanging in reservoir and the tube coming off it at a 90 degree angle is too long to connect it to any port on the ram????

This valve does not connect to the lift cover directly - it is mounted on the right side of the hydraulic chamber housing. The high pressure tube mates with the lift cover from the top of the housing and the lift cover gasket provides the "seal" between this mating point. The reservoir tube should run towards the back of the hydraulic chamber from the valve to keep it away from the pump intake opening at the bottom of the chamber.

You can kinda see what I am talking about in the first two pics under the "Restoring" section of Rustbucket's website. I posted a link below.

Thanks Dan! Looks like all I'm missing is the clamp that holds it to the housing. Next question - why does Zane say you should back off a hollow screw (which I don't have) under the acorn nut before removing the cover?

The clamp that holds the tube to the inside bolt on the inspection cover really is not that big of a deal - you can secure it with baling wire if needed. However, the backside of that backpressure valve sits snugly on a rubber washer that acts as a seal on the side of the hydraulic pump housing. If you do not pull that valve away from the seal (rubber washer) before you try to remove the lift cover you will more than likely damage the backpressure valve. That said - I forgot once and mine is still fine. Luckily, I was able to find a new old stock seal (rubber washer) from my local New Holland dealer and replaced the dried up and slightly damaged one (due to not backing the valve off) on Rustbucket. You want this area to seal good for the backpressure valve to work correctly.

I hear these backpressure valves are still available - but pricy.

HTH,
Dan
