I replaced all of the gaskets on my ram along with the missing o-ring on the piston. I found the gasket between the cover and the ram assembly was missing a section. Chalked it up to age and installed the new one. Used the lift once and blew the new gasket. The part that is out is between the bolts on the right hand side, has an oblong hole in it. Anyone know what may be causing this gasket to blow?

The good oil gaskets used to have asbestos fibers in them, so they wouldn't blow out so easily. Can't have that, can we!

Best to use a GOOD gasket from FNH, and install it DRY (at least in that pressure port area).

(You didn't use silicone gasket maker did you? That stuff makes things REAL slippery.)

Make sure the cover and rear end mounting surfaces are CLEAN, and tighten the heck out of the bolts.

I made sure the surfaces were clean and did not use silicone. I ordered the gasket set from Yesterday's Tractor. Should I get them elsewhere?

I can't answer that. With the removal of asbestos from gaskets, who knows, anymore. I have no idea how the material in the ones this site sells compares to the ones from FNH, but, if you have a dealer nearby, it might be worth checking to see if they have one, and comparin g it to the one you have.

There is a pressure port there that carries high pressure oil from the pump to the lift system.
bolts on each side of this port should be very tight. Myself I would take a look to see if I could use an "O"Ring with a metal ring around the outer edge to keep it from blowing. then you would not need the bolts so tight. I believe there is about 2000 PSI pressure at that point.

I could send you a picture if you would email me.
