is the 8n genny 6 volts DC? or is it internally rectified or is it rectified at the regulator?

Actually there is no such thing as pure DC electricity except in a battery. The generator makes the electricity first in AC but it only uses the current that is going one way so it ends up DC at the battery or it is used as DC from the battery. The battery acts as the rectifie in DC systems.

DC. The armature commutator ensures that the output is DC. Alternators have sliprings.
