9n distributor advance index plate

what does each line on the index plate amount to in degrees? what is the max advancement? i live at 7000ft and wonder it it will advance enough. it was once said that you advance one degree for every 1000ft above sea level. thanks for any help

I don't know the answer, but it's easy enough to figure out. Measure the diameter of the plate. Figure the circumference, then divide the circumference into 360 degrees, giving the number of degrees per inch of movement at the plate's outer edge.

Then, double the number of degrees per inch of movement, as the crankshaft, where spark advance is measured, turns twice as fast as the distributor.
