Does anyone know of a repair for a damaged upper race on the shaft and ball nut assembly that does not involve replacing the shaft assembly?

I have a punch with a notch ground in the side of it for this job.

Dan's way works easy.. a 3 jaw puller works.. or you can weld a bead around the face of the race and then tap it on your bench and it will fall out.

I did the latter on my 52 8n the last time i went int he box to repair the steering tube.

If you are talking about the upper race that is inset into the top steering tube base, yes they are replacable. What I did was get a 3' long piece of rebar, bend it slightly at one end, then put the bent end down the top of the tube so it contacts the edge of the race. Then, just pound it out with a BFH.

Good luck,
Dan

I'm sure the race (cup) that the upper bearing rides in is replaceable. The bearing and cup usually come as a set. On this site they come seperately. Is this the part you are looking for?
