Before I start to re-build my 0ld 47 8n I want to try and make er run to see what it needs, don't have an air cleaner and wanted some advice on which to buy, the Harco with the bottle or the cylinder type, part #(Part No: 8N9600B) sold here on YT. Everything from the carb on is missing. She is running pure black at the exhaust and bubbles in the fuel line but the oil pressure is 40 so don't want to jump into more than i need to. New to the board but sure enjoy it.

Awadi....you are talking about two diff animals. The 8n9600 is an oil bath filter and is what you need.Like Dan says, the Harco,is a pre-cleaner,and is used dry.You can add the Harco to the 8n9600 for better filtering if you like, but is not necessary. don b

Iwould like to know how ye know ye got bubbles in ye fuel line. I bet ye got a clear plastic fuel line on that should be removed, right?

you are right on Ross, from the tank there is about 6 inches of clear tubing into the carb....looks like champange bubbles and when they hit the carb she misses bad.

Ye need to replace that line with the original steel fuel line, much safer. Will not become brittle with age and rupture spilling fuel on ye hot manifold (that could cause a fire and burn ye tractor up or at least evaporate the fuel in ye tank. Might even burn ye toes before ye can get off. Replacement line new is about $20.00 or less.

Pre cleaners (like the Harco) are great to have - especially in dusty environments, but not required. You could get by with a replacement oil bath cleaner if you are looking to cut costs. You will need the air cleaner to carb pipe, two rubber connecting hoses (in between the air cleaner and pipe, and in between the pipe to carb), and 4 hose clamps.

This will not cure your black exhaust - that will need to be done with a carb rebuild, or at the very least an adjustment.

This should let you see what you have there.

Good luck,
Dan
