Had the 47 8n front dist for about two weeks and got the oil and grease off, took off the fenders, drawbars etc. to strip and prime. It starts the first turn but runs rough, blue smoke, black exhaust and I wrote before neoprene gas line, bought a new OEM gas line after Dells advice, oil pressure is 30 hot.

Anyways I have new plugs/wires/ dist cap/rotor/ wiring harness( the wiring looks bad) air cleaner and carb kit. The problem is should I strip her down and paint orput on the new parts and see how it runs before starting to strip. I thought I may have to re-build the engine and replace some seals but which way would be easier? Would appreciate what order some of you found best. thanks

yes, makes sense, one other question, anyone ever make a gallon gas tank to mount on top just to run and tune so as not to have to put the hood on and off or is that a bad idea? Glad you guys have patiense with us novices, thanks

Yes, awadi, the temporary gas tank is a good idea. I used one from a Snapper riding mower when I was working on my 1947N. It sure worked good fer me. A little diagnosi for ye smoking. Blue smoke is from burning oil going by ye rings, very bad meanss ye probably need a rebuild, run a compresssion test and find out. Black Smoke is from flooding. Too much gasoline in the fuel/air mixture, either from choking or a bad carb adjustment.
