I NOTICED OIL IN MY WATER IN MY 2N. WHEN I PULLED THE HEAD, THERE WAS OIL ALL OVER, AND MY HEAD AND BLOCK WAS PITTED IN PLACES. IS IT POSSIBLE TO USE A SPRAY ON OR BRUSH ON GASKET COMPOUND WITH A NEW HEAD GASKET AND GET A GOOD FIT OR DO I NEED TO GET THE HEAD AND BLOCK SURFACED. THE BLOCK HAS STUDS,

I always use Copper coat on head gaskets. It help spread out the heat and it also helps seal gaskets, and in your case it will also help with the pits if they aren't to big that is

If I am not mistaken there are two types of head gaskets . The soft one will help with light imperfections . I don't know if you can run a big flat file across the surface to clean up the pits or if there too deep . It probably is if they are big enough to talk about - Ken(Ark)

I rarely talk to folks that yell at me (yer all caps)

But I did post what seems to be the accepted consensus by some LONGTIME mechanics here this AM.

I don't use anything on my head gaskets, but I do use proper torque, and tightening sequence and fer 2 or 3 running times, times before I quit.

Sorry bout the caps Dunk. I didn"t know I broke tractor talk manners. Thanks for the info. I was surprised at the amount of oil visible on block deck after removing head. I never thought that a flat head engine could do that. But I don"t want to resurface. My last resurface ended with my pistons striking the head. So I"m hoping for a sealant to allow me to shortcut.
