My 8n is running like a champ, just changed radiator fluid and filled it up too much so it ran over needless to say. My temp gauge reads between 170 to 200 degrees. Anyone know the operating temp of an 8N?

Rob..... ..depends upon where yer measuring yer water temp but the "in-the-hoze" thermostat is 160F. Myself, I think yer 200deg is TOO-HOT due to restrictions in the radiator fins (internal or external). And iff'n yer runnin NO-THERMOSTAT, then the engine usually runs about 130F, which is WHY non-thermostatted engine develop killer SLUDGE. These 4-psi radiator systems ain't got the same HI-TEMP operating condition of yer 14-psi BelchFire V-8..... ...Dell, the cool

Dell, my thermostat is in the top of the head not in the hose, would this temp be hotter?

Rob...I've read a proceedure to drill & tap a hole near the front left side of the head for a temp sensing bulb. Is that what you have?

As I recall the industrial version of the N engine(truck, jeep, etc.)was cast w/ a boss in that location & factory drilled for a temp sender.

That would be the cooler end of the engine since there's less water circulation at the back(#4)cylinder.

Jeff

That's a GOOD operating temperature range for just about ANY IC engine... warm enough to evaporate moisture out of the oil yet well below overheating!
