I hate MS carbs. Ichanged the one on VAC case with a Zenith which works 100% better. The MS I have on my 9N always gives me problems constantly and I have it apart again tying to get it to work properly. I have never been able to keep them from leaking gasfrom the front of the carb,no matter how I set the float even with new seat and needle. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can stop the bleeding? Maybe I have set float wrong although I have tried it every way.

From time to time I get a carb that will flood out for no reason, i have found that rust are scale has formed in the passage between the needle and seat and the fuel inlet so now I use a sand blaster to clean out the passage from both ends. I have a NAPA hand held 1 qt. unit #770-5053 that does a good job for this and other things. You kin remove the 1 qt. canister and install a hose and push into a bag of sand and use it to sand blast bigger parts with.
I fix a lot of these carbs that have the mysterious leak and it gits blamed on the needle and set, after 30 years I don’t think I have seen but a few needle and seats that were the problem and never the newer vitron tip type. The problem is the seat is not tight enough you , I have a file that I have ground down to fit the two slots in the seat and it fits nice and snug to the point I haveta tap it into the slots. I then put the carb mounting studs in a vice tap my file into the two slots and take a adjustable wrench and fit it over the file and give it a good tighten. If some one has buggered up the slots take a hack saw blade and run it threw the slots to square’em up. This will cure the problem most of the time.

I have got in the habit of lap'n the needle seat. I take a wood pencil and use the tapered end. I put the tapered end in the brass seat turn it like a drill bit, this will debure and polish the seat. It don't git any more simpler than the set up you have and should be a EZ to fix if you will take yer time and eliminate all the possible area's it could leak. Your fuel line could also be rusty inside. I had one that tried to eat my lunch, it would flood only after ya run it and shut the engine off. The sandblaster trick and a new fuel line fixed it. I bout wore the carb out R&R it till I saw a tiny spec of sum'in that had the needle held open.
Insulation of the brass elbow) RTV and gas don't git along. Teflon tape will not hurt as long as you do not leave any hang'in to the inside. Tip izz to tape and then a little pipe dope on the tape. remember to apply the tape in the rite direction, or if the fit'in screws to the right then apply the tape to the right. I always say "right on then right on with the tape" then you will not roll the tape up as you install the fit'in, it makes a nice clean leak free job. I see no need for the anti-seize. If you install the tape on a right hand fit'in to the left the tail end of the tape will wad up then you will be pic'in at it to git the loose strings off but guess what its the same way on the inside and they will break loose and cause the needle valve to stick open.

Remove needle seat blast form seat side, all sand blows out inlet side and in yer face, or hair iffin you have enny. Or use it as a plug hound when ya hang up yer crank bait. You do know what a plug hound is doncha.

Well, fer some reason you just got on my defensive side.

I haven't ever seen a bad MS carb.

I haven't ever seen one that a good cleaning, a new solid metal needle and seat, and on occasion a float, wouldn't fix.

My self I don't sand blast a carb, to likely to leave sand behind. As far as leaking theres a few trick to stop that. One is to make sure you get the needle seat in tight the other is if your using the needle with a rubber tip set it in the seat and then use a small what ever and tap in it a few times. That puts a set in the rubber and then they work ok

Thanks to all of you for your input. Thanks Dunk for the step by step breakdown. I did find my float was filled with gas and sank to the bottom when put in liquid. Also needle tip was bad. Hope to have the problems corrected shortly. Thanks again.
