I have an 8n and I am losing oil at a very steady rate and it is coming from where the lift arms are attatched to the frame both sides. How do I replace the seals. I was told that they are a friction fit. Is this true?

Don't let the prospect of pulling the axle trumpet to fix the leak scare you. It really isn't that big of a deal. If you've got a cherry picker or an engine hoist, all you have to do is drain the oil, pull the tire off, disconnect the brake linkage, remove the trumpet nuts, and then pull the trumpet, brakes, hub, and axle all off as an assembly. The only part you should need on hand in advance is a trumpet gasket. Soak the gasket in warm water for 20 minutes or so before using it or you'll never get it over the studs in one piece. When retightening the hitch arm pivot pins, remove them completely first, coat the taper with Permatex gasket shellac (little brown bottle), and then reinstall and torque it. If you have a cherry picker and the necessary tools and parts on hand, the whole job shouldn't take more than a couple hours. This is, however, a prime time to clean the 50 years worth of gook and crud out of the differential housing while you're there. May as well plan to have some diesel or kerosene and a garden sprayer read before you start.

Those are tapper fit pins with a nut on the insdie. You have to remove the left axle houseing to replace/tighten them up. If they are wore badly you may need o replace them. I have had a couple that got hammered badly and the only way to stop them from leaking was to install new ones. I got lucky that the houseing wasn't hurt much
