Hello Im in the proces of finishing up my 8N restoation. I have left no bolt or part untouched. I was wandering if the TSC Ford grey paint was to light of a color. In my opinion it is to light, anyone else think so? If so what is a good color match paint without breaking the bank and going to automotive type paint?
Thanks Wade

Thanks For the response guys! I was at NAPA today looking at their selection of grey's and the Dearborn grey they offer seems to be a close match (to my eyes). All of the pics you guys posted were all realy nice looking tractors. I did use the red from TSC which is Valspire and think its a little bright as well. The reason Im haveing this conflict is, today I went by a local equipment dealer that use to sell these tractors when they were new. The guy showed me some pics of restored tractors and wanted me to pick out what was wrong with them. The lighter color of grey it what was on all of them. So hence my dilema. He said if you went though the trouble to restore it with other details why not use the right color. I will let you guys know what I decide and maybe post a pic.
Thanks again Wade!

If it is the code I posted its dead on. I use CNH 2150 IHC rouge red, it may not b exact but damm close, good paint for the money also. If you go NAPA lay the last coat of paint on wet or it will look dry. The NAPA paint is not good for brush are roller, its gotta B sprayed

IMHO---if you went to the extremes that I believe you did to get a perfect restoration, I think I would use as close to "original" paint as I could find.

My tractor, I think looks pretty good, but I consider it a refurbished tractor and not restored.

Make sure you post pics when you are finished.

Tim

The grey on my 49 8N is Valspar Ford Grey that can be purchased at Farm and Fleet Stores and is relatively inexpensive. I think this is a lighter colored grey compared to the actual original grey.

Fenders and rims on this tractor are painted TISCO TP-240-LP Ford Grey, hardner used TISCO hardner. Hood painted NAPA Martin Senour Code : M2J957 both are a exact match to original Ford gray used 48 to 52. I had a hood on a 52 one owner that had never been painted and both paints match it.

That is what I used for my 1948 8N trailer queen. And while I still think shes a beaut - I have never liked how white their "grey" was. I used the Tisco Ford Medium Grey on my 1954 NAA, and that was a real nice color.

Wade..... .believe it or not, there are 3-shaded of GREY Ford tractor paint. The 9N/2N's were ALL solid darkgrey, called variously battleship gray, institutional gray, machinery gray, forest gray, smoke gray.

The vermillion redbelly 8N has a medium grey with a slight brownish-greenish tinge. Listed in the N-Ford MPC (master parts catalog) as p/n M-13243, enamel, medium grey.

Paint, Brownish Medium Gray, 1 Quart - From TISCO, providing OEM quality. High Strength air dry enamel with Alklyd resins to assure durability. Fade resistant, smooth uniform film characteristics. Used on tractors built between 1948-1964. (Part No: TP245QT) $21.36qt.

After 1964, Ford changed their tractor gray to an almost white.

I say its yer tractor, paint it enny color that pleases you..... ..Dell, the 20/20 painter (looks good at 20ft or 20mph)

Wade, I did one last year and the TSC Ford White made it look like a refigerator. I swiched to the Husky Grey (Riding Lawn mower) and thought it looked a whole lot better. Can't wait to hear some of the other answers.
