My 8N has one of those cyclone air vents - however it does not have the glass jar or the bail arm/clip - how essential is this glass jar? Is it doing much harm running it without it in place? I have oil in the bottom of the air filter as normal.

If it is important does anyone know where I can get one and the clip?

Where do I get the seals?

You can still get the 8N seal in the aftermarket. The NAA seals like for OW are NLA. I made mine out of foam door edging insulation for Rustbucket - has worked great for over a year.

It will not harm the tractor to run it without the glass jar. You just won't get the affect of the precleaner. And has been previously said, to get the full affect, all the seals in the precleaner system need to be in place and in good shape

I've never used one, but I have wondered if the Cyclone pre-filter adds enough restriction to the air intake to affect engine performance or power.

Anyone notice any difference with and without one ?

I have pulled the intake tube to the carb off during testing once - there was no difference between air flow or performance that I could detect with or without the pre cleaner in the loop.

"how essential is this glass jar?"

Well - if you plan on using the cyclone pre-cleaner as an actual PRE CLEANER - then the jar is very essential. As a matter of fact, you also need the gasket that seals the jar tightly to the stem of the pre cleaner to create a vacuume so the dirst collected does not flow back up the tube from air leaks. You also need the seal for where the pre cleaner attaches to the air filter to increase suction.

Without a completely sealed system, this is just an air intake. A correctly set up system will show very visibly how effective it is by the dirt you see collecting in the jar - it is significant in dusty areas or when you use your tractor for mowing or dirt engaging activities. I have one on every N I own.

HTH,
Dan

Essential? Beats me... but most guys put a small "green and yellow" model in there to show their disdain for the "other guys"...

Other than that, it serves as a repository for 'bigger piece' separated out of the air...
