BIGP..... ..the little handle under your right knee is the draft/position control. It is not for a "flush" (grin)

Forward/horizontal for draft control...as in plowing.
Up/vertical is for position control as in brush-hogging.

All N-tractor hydraulics are internally "sensed" for draft (load) and when the load exceeds the setting, the hydraulics "automagic-ically" lift the arms just a little bit or if the plow drag (load) lessens, it will allow the arms to lower a little bit and the "suck" of the plow will pull it a little deeper into the dirt. This draft action keeps a constant load on the tractor engine for maximum engine efficency.

Only the 8N has the option of position or draft control on the hydraulics.

I keep my 8N in positon control (up) for everything I use my tractor for.

Hope this helps..... ....Dell

When the position control lever on my '51 8N is put in the horizontal position, the lift arms drop like lead baloons and I can't raise them with the touch control lever at all. IS THIS NORMAL?

Would you concur that a good way to remember which position is for which task might be...

...forward (horizontal) for plowin', then up and rearward, toward the "over-running coupler", for hoggin'.

Keep 'em safe....

Good tip Dell, how about Down-Draft-Digging (plowing)
