Buying a couple spray cans at a "supply" company only to get them home a find out the color is more like a burnt redish orange. Where can you get the spray cans in red? The dern lids on the cans are RED but the paint SURE wasn"t.Also, does anyone know the red code and gray code.

Use international or New holland red.The Ford color is too close to orange.

Hobo's dead on. I believe the key word there is "olive". That's the one that seems to look the closest to the color I found under my headlights when they were probably removed for the first time. Seems a lot of people go too gray when there's a tad of green (olive) in there originally.

Mine's just covered with WallyWorld gray primer for 96 cents a can!
Looks better than rust.....

I used Rust-Oleum Sunrise Red (home Depot) BPS Ford Gray(TSC) Both are oil based enamel. I thinned with mineral spirts and sprayed it on. 3 coats :)

NAPA,,, Martin Senour still carries the correct paint colors,,, the gray M2J957 is a perfect match (for a 8n),,, they don't have it in a rattle can tho,,, never tried their red cuzz i use CNH IHC 2150 rouge red with NAPA hardener 15118,,, it dries in less than a hour,,, their rattle can red is a perfect match

The CNH M2J957 as well as the complementing 956 colors are those used for the 101 series Ford Tractors starting with the 1958 model year. They are the much lighter gray and orangish red colors than the 8N's, NAA's and 100 series used. I agree the gray is pretty but not like the original 8N gray.

I'll have to try some but can't get it here as NAPA does not sell paint in these parts, I'll get it on next trip north. Only problem I hear is the original 8N gray did not have what I call an olive tint.

I used the True Value XO paint (Tractor Red) on my '41 9N chassis including engine. It went on real well with a brush, hid alot of imperfections and is holding up really good on the engine. I used the spray can of the same paint on the small removalble parts.

With this question, you will likely get as many answers as there are people on this forum.

As much as I'd like to believe that there is one "correct" shade of red, I personally don't think there is. Even today, there are several variations of the "red" cars that Ford produces - simply due to variations in the different lots of paint. Same with every other color. Drives auto-body guys crazy because you can't just order a quart of "1989 Chevy Midnight Blue."

If that's the case now, I gotta believe that in 1948, there was also variation. My personal opinion is you should paint it whatever color looks good to you. I favor the sunrise red for my working 8n. I haven't decided on a gray yet.

Joe

I used Rust-Oleum #7762 Sunrise Red, and #7755 Light Olive for the gray sheet metal parts. Was well pleased with both colors. Have not been able to find the light olive in the stores any more, but if still available, is a good match for the original gray (in my opinion).

If you have a Tru-Value Hardware nearby the X0-6 Red in spray, quarts or gallons is as close to the 8N red that you will find anywhere on the shelf.

Rust-Oleum Sunrise Red is about as close as you're going to get in a rattle can.

Ford had multiple shades of red there was Ford red and also vermillion red as far as the gray is concerned good luck theres about four different shades to choose from. I got some red from YT and it worked out pretty darn good.
